OK, the Stereo works, now let's talk about upgrades. 700 1991

OK folks , let's tax the collective wisdom on sytem upgrades.

Here is what I have to date and here are a few spare parts kicking around.

Alpine 7870 head unit, Pair of 5 1/4 Pioneer 2 ways in the front doors, Pair of JBL two ways in the rear doors. Doesn't sound too bad. As you expect I have to turn it up a bit much to get the bass to show.I am not interested in being a "boomer" So I'm wondering about the following.

1. I have a Sony MX 235 amp left from the previous install, could I use this to drive some woofers (or what ever) in the trunk? It can be bridged, so one or two speakers? just thinking fill here! might I want some kind of bridge, etc? to send the Bass to the back?

Dumb question here, but can I drive the existing speakers from the head unit and just the back speakers from the amp. If so what determines the balance and fade or level of the woofers, or are they subs?

2. I suspect that a component speaker system might be a good improvement. Can we fit a 6 1/2 in place of the 5 1/4's? Perhaps in the back doors only, due to possible clearance problems ( hitting the side of the dash?) Will it require cutting to clear the magnets? I do understand that depth is an issue.

Any other thoughts ?

Regards

Woody
