LH 3.1 TPS- Haynes says its a sensor and not an adjustable switch like other systems. Help! 200

My 92 with LH Jet 3.1 is now idling poorly at cold start and after running for quite a while. The idle oscillates to the point of shutting down and will not remain running unless I give it some throttle. I've got off idle hesitation and poor power. I pulled code 2-3-2 off the obd again (adjusting for rich or lean at idle). The haynes manual which I understand is British says that the throttle position sensor (not switch) should be checked between the terminals and another check with the key in the on position. How in the hell am I supposed to check this with it hooked up to the harness and throttle body. The manual futher states that if it is bad to replace and there is no adjustment for the new sensor (not switch). I want to check the idle air control also since there has got to be load of soot there also? I don't want to just change parts to correct the problem. This is the first time in 10 years and 180k miles that it has run poorly. Help and thanks.
