Oxygen sensor tool 200

What is the proper size of the socket in depth and width necessary to remove or replace the oxygen sensor on a 240 1986 Manifold.

I can get a fresh looking oem sensor from a wreck at a pick and pull as a spare for ten dollars.

I am told that I need the slotted tool which costs $16. Would splicing the wires affect the performance of the sensor?

What do you think?
