hot wire on alternator grounding. 700

The thick red wire that runs from the alternator to the starter is grounding. It's causing low alternator output and the wire is getting hot. Does that wire branch off somewhere in the harrness or does it just go straight to the starter. Need to know so I can figure if it's my harness grounding or my starter. It is a used newer harness so it shouldn't be that.
