GLT with GT markings ? 200

Hi all,

Last year I was offered a 1981 242 GLT for the fairly hefty sum of $3500 CAD. Granted, it had just under 200,000 kms, minimal rust, and was in great mechanical shape. I passed, mainly because I still had my '84 244 Ti, and didn't have room for another car.

One unique featureof it was that it had the orange and black stripes down the side and over the trunk, like the silver '78-'80 242GT's did. The (2nd) owner claimed the paint and decals were original- and I couldn't find anything on the car to indicate otherwise.

That is the only GLT I have ever seen with that decal. Was this actually available, from the factory, or a dealer option ? Is it rare ? The same guy has it up for sale again, and I think I might nab it to replace ol' rusty.
