I have a 1996 Volvo 960. Today the side of the radiator blew apart. I'm wondering if this could be caused by a blown head gasket? This radiator has a metal core which is crimped to the plastic sides. The plastic side on the passenger side came apart right at the crimps by the lower radiator hose. It's not just a little leak, the water POURS out.
I have been losing coolant since i bought the car last month. I just put on a new (green) coolant cap and replaced the upper heater hose last week when it started leaking. On a recent trip the temp gauge was eratic although the coolant level stayed pretty consistant. Can the pressure get high enough in the cooling system to blow out the radiator instead of blowing a rubber hose?
