Trans Flush Question 700 1991

Does the auto trans work on a suction or a pump basis. Reason for the question is this. I was wondering if I disconnected both lines from the radiator, placed poly tube over each, placed one in an empty bucket, and the other in a bucket full of fresh trans fluid, could I avoid the pour in the funnel at a certain rate routine.
