'87 240 intermittant problem - throttle reponse 200

Hello,
I have a 1987 240DL. Approximately one month ago I replaced a dead main fuel pump, filter, and in tank pump and strainer (the main had died and I thought it best to replace the entire delivery). Car ran perfect for about two weeks. Now it often runs just fine, but on occasion, will merely idle with little or no throttle response – when throttle is applied, it stutters and backfires like it is running very lean. Today on the freeway it suddenly lost power and would only run up to about ½ throttle – after that it would be unresponsive, as though the throttle plate was opening with no more gas to be found. Backing off on the throttle would give me the minimal power once again. This problem is intermittent, and in all situations the car idles just fine. Any assistance would be of great help.
Thanks in advance!!
Craig - Wisconsin
