1972 1800E Speedometer 1800 1972

My speedometer now does not return to "0 mph" or show any speed variations. It remains at current running speed , until that speed is increased. The odometer & trip tick work fine. When I disconnect the speedometer cable, the speedometer indicator drops to "0". When I start to accelerate, ir will show what I believe is the current speed, but will not drop and show a lower speed when I slow down.

Any ideas on how to repair? Any schematics?

Any help would be appreciated!
