Hi,
I exactly had the same problem last month on my '72 1800 ES - bad speed level and parkisonian movement but correct odometer functionment - until it completely broke (even after a generous spread of graphite grease into the speedocable). If you dont want to loose full of $$, repair or make it repair NOW before your speedo become totally worn. Mine is actually on repair (for about 150$) and it's still less than a new one. It seems to be a common problem on Smith's speedos, this is the third I break at the same mileage !! (on others cars)
But the adress of thant repairer won't be very useful for you, I live in France?
