W,S,E Trans mode switches completely dead 900 1993

My "new" 960 seems great now (after flushing + replacing trans fluid), but the transmission mode selector switches (economy, sport, winter) don't appear to do anything, at any rate their lights don't work & I can't feel any difference after pressing one. I can't find anything on the board which deals with this - maybe I don't know the right jargon to put into the search? I would be very grateful if anyone could point me in the right direction - many thanks.

Franklyn - 1st Volvo but impressed so far

(P.S. found the board & read all the stuff about 960s after buying - trying not to panic now...)
