I've replaced the rusty tailgate on my '86 245 with a rust free tailgate from a '81 245

good news is they interchange except for the electrical differences

bad news is the '81 didn't have the high level brake light

question is -

can I scrape off the black template (I don't know what to call it) from the old tailgate windshield and the two brake light mounts glued to the old windshield and re-use them? OR should I just swap out the window glass? OR other options?

until I figure this out my bulb failure warning sensor comes on every time I brake.

there's got to be at least one "body" expert out there who knows this one?????
