Vehicle charging while in traffic for long time and high when cruising 700 1989

My voltmeter is acting strangly at times. When I am in traffic for a long time, it will slowly start to charge in the lower range. When I leave the car overnight and start it, irt gnerally charges above the midpoint. Is this normal operation?

How do i tell how old my Volvo battery is?

How often should I have a tune up?
