balljoint replacement... how long can I hold out? 700

1985 745t

So I crawled under the car the other night for a suspension check. I need to get some work done on my brick, and wanted to see if there are any other annoying jobs I don't have the tools for that I can have my indy guy do.

Turns out one of teh balljoints is shot, or at least dying. The right front ball joint appears solid, but the rubber boot on the left front ball joint is split and starting to coem apart. It's still "there", but I could rip small pieces of it off if I want to.

I'm in VT right now, and my mechanic is in CT. I have an appt to take the brick in on Tues, Nov. 26, and I'm wondering if I can last that long. I don't use the car too frequently right now, just a 10 mile trip every couple of days. No noise to speak off from the offending ball joint, and no real performance problems. I've been babying it on hard turns just to be safe, and avoiding the strain of takinbg long turns at high speeds.

I'd like to get this done with my other work... will it hold out for a week and a half if I don't beat on it? Is the ball joint the type of thing that can suddenly blow out with little warning, or will I know when it's getting near the point it is about to fail?

Thanks in advance for any help.

-rt
