Bulb replacement - 960 ECC control 900 1992

Anyone replaced the bulbs that illuminate the 3 knobs on the ECC unit? I started to look at this, but got discouraged when it looked like I would have to remove the ECC control unit from the console to be able to replace the bulbs. This looks like a rather unpleasant job. I hope there is an easier way.
