My 240DL is eating alternators! 200 1986

About three months ago, the warning lights on my 1986 240DL started flickering. Shortly thereafter, the battery was dead. Took it to the mechanic, and he installed a new alternator.

Last week, it happened again. The rebuilt alternator was still under warranty, so he put in a new one.

Yesterday, it happened AGAIN!

He says he checked the voltage regulator and that it's okay. Any other ideas?
