Hi!
This is the first time I post a message here. I have a 164 in Vancouver. Having a 164 in vancouver is not easy because you have to pass an emmision test every year in order to get it registerd and get insurance. I did not pass. In fact their CO meter went wild. It'll cost me at least $400cdn to get a mechanic to fix it. I have been deeling with old Volvos back in Sweden since I was 15 but I think I am in over my head in this one. Especially since I don't have a co meter handy. I have checked all the obvious parts like plugs, air filter and switches. The engin runs perfect. The ideling is eaven at 700 rpm. The fuel consuption is high at a little over 2 liters per 10 km. (What is normal for the B30 with carburators??) But otherwise there is nothing wrong with the behaivour of the engin. Does anyone have advice or sugestions how to cut the emissions without spending $400cdn and compromising the nice engin preformance? They check for NOx and CO so these have to balanced, I guess??
The other option is to sell the car. But juging from the discussion I have read here the market is not great. However if someone is interested I have a Bone white 1972 164 for sale. It is in greate mechanical condition (exept for the emissions apparently) but has some smaller malfunctions as a half-broken gas gauge and a left fron window that des not open all the way down. The body has some surface rust under the doors and on the "trunk hood" and a rust hole the size of a quarter by the antenna. The left front fender has a reparable dent and the left back dor has an unreparable dent. 95% of the paint is in good shape the left over 5% is the parts that has the surface rust. The red lether seats are well worn and needs some work. It is has a standard 4 speed gearbox with the overdrive placed where I would have thought to find the wind shield vipers. Everything seems to be original exept the alternator. Anyway, You all probably know my car better than I do!! The price is $1000cdn or $600us and the car is in Vanvouver, Canada. (I will take some e-pictures and post them, but where??)
Sorry about the long message!! Have a good day.
He who wants to learn, Gustav
