I have a '90 744 with an M46, I'm concerned the synchros are failing because, for one it seems I have no synchro on 1st, if the car is moving you can't shift in without reving up before putting the clutch in. Shifting from 1st to 2nd, it's hard to explain but you can feel a stiff vibration in the lever, like in the 10's of hertz, unless you shift slowly. Shifting into 3rd, it sort of makes a click and sucks the lever in, as if the clutch isn't fully disengaged. 4th is just a little hard shifting in. I know this could be the clutch needing adjustment, but it starts engaging pretty high off the floor. As for tranny oil, I'm not sure, how hard is it to change? Maybe these things are normal for Volvo transmissions, other transmissions I've driven are all "lighter" and for smaller cars and slip into any gear easily. One more question, how feasible would it be to put an M47 in if God forbid I need a new tranny at some point?
Thanks,
Richard
