On my 1990 760 Turbo Wagon, I removed the front rotor to have it resurfaced and before I realized what I was doing, I had removed the whole hub assembly, bearing and all. I attempted to slide the hub back onto the spindle and it just wouldn't go, and when it finally did, the bearing popped into two pieces. Now the bearing is in two pieces...The large piece that would come out of the back of the hub and the ball bearings are still inside the hub, the other (a small, round piece with a ridge inside where the ball bearings sit) is out. I tried to whack it back in to no avail. I'm quite frustrated, as I've been working on the right front suspension for most of a week now and this stupid stuff keeps happening. I'm thinking of taking the assembly to my local shop to see if they can put it back together. I'm afraid when I come back home to put it on the spindle again, the same thing is going to happen.
1. Have I destroyed my bearing, thus needing a new one?
2. Am I going to have to cut off an arm and a leg to get a new one?
3. Why did the hub not slide back onto the spindle as easily as it came off?
Thanks!
