differnce between 87 and later B280s? 700

I have read here more than once references to the '88 and later B280 engines being "fine" or okay because oiling issues had been resolved in those models...what about the B280 in my 87 780? Is not a B280 a B280? Were there upgrades/redesigns beginning in 88? At least it's not a B27 or B28.
