My climate control system (1996 965 w/ auto climate control system) seems to hold cabin temperature very well, but I have to set it about 6 degrees higher than desired to hold the desired temperature (i.e., to hold 70 degrees, I set it to 76 degrees).

This tells me the electronic regulating function is fine, but either the sensor or the controller (temperature selector) is not properly calibrated.

I really don't want to buy both (which would be quite expensive I imagine). In your experience, which is usually the culpret in this situation (if it's common), or where can I find a calibration plot (temerature vs. resistance) for the cabin temperature sensor probe?

Last question...where IS the cabin temp probe located? None of the manuals I have seem to pinpoint it for my year/model.

Rant content: I'd rather just have a cable attached to a manual water valve to the heater core (with a dial that says HOT in one direction and COLD in the other) like "old" cars used to have. When did we get so sophisticated that we "need" climate control systems that cost as much as a whole VW Beetle used to cost brand new when they fail?
