volts and blower motors and frustration 200 1986

Ok, I'm having issues. The top little red wire that went to the alternator broke and so the alternator wasn't working. I fixed that all up, and it worked for a while, reading around 14 volts on my voltmeter(which it had always done). Now, sometimes when the lights are on, it drops down almost to the red zone on the voltmeter and the lights go a bit dim. Also, the blower motor, after its 2-year-long battle with slight squeals is on its last legs, squealing like mad all the time. When I turn it off, the voltage goes back to normal most times. Could it be that the blower motor going bad is draining power? Do I have electric wiring crossed? Are the alternator brushes bad? Why is this happening? I'm already angry enough that i'm going to have to do this blower motor thing over christmas in the bitter Ohio cold...though i guess it's better than up here in Waterloo, ON. Anyways, any help is GREATLY appreciated, as i'm stumped. Thanks in advance!
