Hi, Everyone,
I'm new here(a month or so) and have been trying to solve this through existing posts and replies. I'm hoping these symptoms might ring a bell for someone. Thanks in advance.
Here's the sequence: Bought an 89 240 with bad odometer-dealer promised to fix, and I took it back in, gave them the instrument cluster and drove off. Bad! I came to learn that the battery lamp is a necessary component of the charging circuit. Symptoms were: stalling as I slowed to a crawl, and finally a fully discharged battery. Recharged it and went to get my repaired cluster.
They put the cluster in, only for neither the odometer or speedometer to work. Made an appointment for a replacement, and drove off. No problems with the old, faulty cluster, battery charged as normal. No stalls.
Returned to the dealer for the 'new' cluster. Both odometer and speedometer worked, but after a day, once again the car would stall(only occasionally) as I slowed to a stop. This time though, the battery seems to be getting charged.
All the indicators seem to work(they all light up with ig sw set to on, and go out after engine start. Could it still be the instrument cluster lamps? Would an incorrect lamp for the battery indicator cause these symptoms? Or looseness of the connector?
The car runs very well, no roughness or sputtering or anything to give me pause.
Just a few hours ago, pulling into a Denny's, it stalled again, and this time the check engine light came on.
Diagnostics show no codes other than 1,1,1. Have ordered fuel pump relay; checked and revitalized ground connections; fuel efficiency seems unchanged.
After stalling, car starts right up-no wait necessary. I'm at a loss at how to proceed. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
I should note that the morning of the day the symptoms reappeared, I replaced interior carpeting and trim I'd previously removed in tracking down a leak. Could I have screwed something up inside?
Again, thanks in advance.
Karl
PS
I can't locate the various faqs I read references to. Like the 700 faq. How do I get it?
