Turn signals power up the battery? Is this right? 200 1981

Hi guys...
My 81 244t has been running great, except for lately (the past 3 days) it's developed this weird issue. After driving around for awhile with the lights, the fan, and the radio going, my battery/alternator light comes on dimly. If I keep everything on, it gets brighter. So far, so good, right? That's the way it should go assuming that everything is working properly but the battery is low or whatever. But here's the thing- I'll let the voltmeter read around 10 or less, hit my turn signal(no, it doesn't matter which direction), and the voltage goes right back up to 12 or so with all the accessories still on. The little red light of impending doom goes away. For awhile. When it comes back again, as it will about 5 or 10 minutes later, I hit the turn signals, and the voltmeter is right back where it should be. So does anyone have any ideas as to what I should be looking for? Is this even a problem? Or is it just a newly-acquired quirk of this car (they all have 'em). I'm lost- if it was just the red light I'd have a pretty good idea of what I was going to have to fix. But with this whole turn signal thing, I don't know what could be the cause. And it's really just too darn cold outside to go out and play without knowing what I'm looking for. Any help is, as always, greatly appreciated.
