1992 Engine in a 1986 Turbo Brick 700 1986

Hi Guys:

I'm sill looking for a Turbo Motor for my 1986 740 Turbo Wagon. I've got two prospects. Both are 1992 from the 900 Series. I have a few questions before I buy.

(1)- Will these Engines work in my 86 without major modifications. One guys says he has to sell me the Computer too. Will the 1992 Computer work with the 1986 Wiring harness?

(2)- Both these engines are set up for Auto Transmission. I'm using the 4 speed with Overdrive. Will my Standard Flywheel fit on these Engines? Will there be a balance problem?

(3)- I'd be paying good money for these engines, $700.00 & $650.00 respectively. One is in the Car with 169,000 miles. I can see it run if I want. One is out with with 58,000 miles, but the turbo is missing. I have a rebuilt Garrett Water Cooled. With the low miles engine, how can I be assured that it's as advertised and in good condition? With the High Mileage engine, what can I look for here?

I'm a little leary of buying the one with 169,000 miles. Mine had this mileage and is a wreck. Over .030 Cylinder Bore wear and a Non-Existant Thrust Bearing. Over 1/8" End Play!!

(4)- How do these prices sound?

Even with this amount of wear my engine still ran pretty good. It had excessive Blowby and a leaking rear main seal, but the pressures were 150 - 135 - 150 - 155. And no Oil Burning. How do you figure this? A tribute to Volvo. John Seargent told me in an eariler post that someone before me didn't maintain her very well, I believe it. There's a guy in Walton NY with a Turbo Brick that has 306,000 and still running strong!!!

So you see what I mean? Except for the excessive Endplay, I'd probably buy my engine if it was offered for sale and get taken.

Any help from you fellow Brick owners will be very much appreciated.

Thanks
Warren
