Thanks brickboarders; my problems are solved. This might be helpful to DIYs.
Symptom 1: Car had very little power, could barely get past 30 mph and also seemed to have too much pressure in the radiator after a drive.
Solution: I first disconnected the catalytic converter from the header pipe. I drove the car to verify that my power would return. It did. I removed the converter interior and the car runs perfectly now. Now I need to get a new catalytic converter. Any ideas on where to get a good deal?
At first I thought that this problem was related to the cold starting problem and that perhaps it was a computer problem. It was actually a neighbor lady (grandma type) who suggested that it was the catalytic converter. She had the same problem on a van!
Symptom 2: Car had difficulty starting when cold.
Solution: I replaced the ECT sensor. It starts perfectly now.
I went through the gamut on this one. I tested the fuel pressure, did all the fuel pump tests, replaced one fuel pump and filter, tried to read the ECT values from the computer wiring, replaced the RPM sensor, and was about to look for a new computer.
Looking back, I wish that I would have replaced the ECT sensor immediately.
