air mass meter!?!?!? 700

I recently posted that my car was stumbling all over and making a popping noise in the engine, unless you barely and gradually press the pedal. I was told to check the hoses and I did and they are all fine. I changed the fuel filter and air filter and have been told by a couple ppl that it's probably the air mass meter. I need some more reliable opinions before I spend the money on one. It has been using more gas and man can you smell it running rich trough the vents. opinions much appreciated?
