I drive a 1988 Volvo 740 sedan and last week my vehicle was viciously asaulted and sideswiped by a fence near my house, leaving the side-view mirror broken off on the driver's side. I need/want to replace it, but I have been unable to find any detailed instructions of how to do it either on the FAQ or in the Haynes book. So, if somebody could offer some help or advice, I would appreciate it. I have power mirrors, which I'm sure makes the repair at least somewhat more complicated or expensive than it would otherwise be. Actually, the mirror itself and the rectangular piece that directly holds the glass were not broken or damaged--only the bracket that connects the mirror to the car and acts as a hinge was broken. I'm wondering if I can only replace the bracket, or am I going to have to replace the whole set-up as a unit. If so, I would appreciate some tips on prices and sources of new or used Volvo power mirrors. Thanks a bunch.
