Advice on 1988 740 purchase 700

I'm looking at a 1988 740 GLE wagon selling for $2900. Except for dash cracks and leather seat cracks, it looks good for the 157,000 miles it has. It does need a windshield. PO had engine overhaul recently, new front suspension, new rotors done by a friend who supposedly works on Volvos as his real job. That is my concern. I'd feel much better with someone to go to if there is a problem. I will try to find out who did the work, and talk to them if I can.
What do you think of this deal? What should I offer the guy?
