My 1983 242 (B21ft) turbo has been a nightmare over the past couple of days. On my way to work the car started misfiring and studdering very badly during acceleration or when climbing a hill. The car could only reach a maximum speed of 40 km/h. I should also mention that the outside temperature was around -10 degrees celsius. As I limped back home my brick started running normally again. When I tried to start it the next morning it would start and stall immediately. Now it does not even fire up. This is what we have done:
1. Gapped spark plugs ... three of the four spark plugs smelled like gas... re-gapping made no difference.
2. Inspected the distributor cap for cracks and the wires for rips... No visible problems. We also checked for visible sparks at night ... none visible
3. Checked that the distrubutor was recieving a spark from the ignition coil...It is
4. Checked that each wire to the spark plugs is providing a spark ... they are. This also means that the rotor is functioning properly.
5. We replaced the ignition coil with a new one that we had in stock ... made no difference.
6. Checked for fuel on both sides of fuel filter, at fuel distrubtion system and at fuel distribution for each injector... fuel was present at all locations.
7. We jumped fuse 5 to 7 to bypass fuel relay and "trick" fuel pumps to run at all times ... no difference ... car still won't start.
8. Inspected vaccuum hoses for disconnections ... one was visible ... but made no difference.
Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is my only means of transportation.
