I just bout a 1992 240 DL wagon (auto) and noticed the previous owner had the rear engine/tranny seal replaced about 2 weeks ago. I also noticed oil in my driveway and sure enough the seal was leaking again. I took the car to my mechanic and he found the reason the seal was leaking was because the PCV valve was plugged up. He replaced it with a new one and told me to watch for leakage but that it probably will be OK since the seal is new. I noticed a couple of drops of oil on my driveway again and wonder what your thoughts about the seal are. Will the seal eventually stop leaking or should I expect it to last.
I called the dealer about the seal and they told me to bring it in and they would check it but they aren't obligated to fix it since the car has a new owner. I am a bit ansy over this since replacing the seals is quite expensive and of course would feel better if they replaced it as they messed up. I have the paperwork proving they didn't replace the PCV valve.
