Help! my 740 overdrive is wacko 700

I just bought a 86' 740 wagon. It runs great except that sometimes the overdrive doesnt work right. Sometimes when it will automatically shift into overddrive. Sometimes i when i am accellerating on the highway and push the overdrive button, it doesnt work. Could it be the relay or solenoid or indications of more trans problems?
