Very stubborn shift button (auto trans.) 200

My 91 245 wagon shift button, that has to be pushed to engage trans., won't go down even when brake is pressed down well. I have to wiggle the shifter for a bit then it goes down. Maybe unrelated, the engine then cuts out and back in as I leave park and go back into after stopping. Anyone delt with this that and knows what I can do to fix.

Help always much appreciated!!!!!!!!!
