Should rear end feel like this? 140-160 1970

On my project 145, currently up on stands in the garage, I got the rear wheels and brake calipers and rotors off.

On turning over the wheel flange by hand (with the other axle turning opposite thru the diffy action) there's a chunk-chunk-chunk kind of feel to it. Both sides feel similar. I don't recall ever feeling this action before and am wondering if it is from normal gear tooth engagement or from failing wheel bearings.

145 has approx 250k miles on odometer.

Any thoughts?? Are rear wheel bearings a common high mileage maintenance item?

Thanks,
Al
