I have removed the exhaust manifold and turbo. I am now going to clean the oil off the turbo, replace the manifold gaskets and the engine mount. I also intend to inspect the turbo and if necessary, rebuild it/have it rebuilt. My questions are:
1, How can I tell if the turbo to intercooler hoses are rotten? Is there any way of cleaning them off? They are very oily, due to a crankcase pressure problem.
2, How can I assess the status of my turbo?
3, If the turbo is ok, I would still like to replace all the gaskets in it. Can I do this myself? I have no special tools, nor any real access to any. I have spanners, screw drivers and so on and normal mechanical skills. I can easily replace brake discs, manifold gaskets and such but I hestitate when it comes to setting the timing and more complicated operations.
