Mystery: Battery drain still undiagnosed after suspected bad jump start 900 1993

Thanks to all you kind folks who responded to my "mystery battery drain after suspected bad jump" dilemma two months ago. I just picked my '93 940 up from the shop yesterday and it was dead again this morning. For six weeks, the car started for the mechanic in their parking lot (with no significant voltage drop)...headlights were never turned on, car was never driven. I drove it home on the highway last night...revved the motor to 3000rpm's during the drive then, when I parked the car I turned off the radio AND the headlights and then revved the engine to 2500rpm's several times, thinking this would ensure that the car would start for me this morning. Nope. Dead, yet again. Do you folks think that this rules out the exciter current as a possible problem? Do bear in mind, I just bought a new battery and my alternator still checks out fine. The car is fine when I drive it, it only goes dead when it sits overnight.

As a side-note: my idiot light for the headlight is coming on as soon as I turn my lights on, but I don't have a single bulb out, they've been checked repeatedly...sometimes it stays on, sometimes it goes out, sometimes it only goes on when I put the car in reverse. Do you think this could be connected to the problem? I am at such a loss.

p.s. the garage's solution is to install a manual switch (like they do on classic cars) to disconnect the battery each night. I have been advised against this and am attempting to have the car worked on elsewhere. I just wanted some feedback before I try to wrestle with another mechanic who thinks I'm an idiot.

Thanks so much, guys!
