Is GL speedo compatible for GLE- I mean the wirings? 900 1991

Hello again,

I could not get my 940GLE 1991 speedo back in action again. So I am writing it off and opting for a secondhand speedo. Unfortunately I have to buy the whole complete set of instruments even though only my speedo is dead. Furthermore, I am driving the damned 16 valve which aren't many on the road over here. I found this speedo with over 200,000km on it and the guy wants to sell the complete set i.e the rpm, temp and gas gauge and the clock. Bt this was meant for the GL cars.

One thing I noticed in the GL set is that the clock doesn't have input for cables to electrically adjust the time. Its has knob for manual operation. I thought of transferring the speedo cluster from the GL set into mine but the position of the 'legs' and sockets for speedo in the GL and mine are different and the PVC circuit at the back of the instrument cluster is also different.

So third option is to discard my current instrument cluster and fix the GL into my car, like plug and play. Before I do this, can somebody tell me whether this can be done or not. I am worried about the arrangement of wires on the connectors that goes into the instrument cluster.I don't want to short circuit and set the car or the instrument cluster on fire. But then if the car cought fire I may be handsomely compensated by the insurance company.

So guys, if somebody out there have the wiring layout for these two models, I shall appreciate a helping hand.

thank you for your help and hope to hear from you all soon.

regards,
