Need Auto Trans Advice for 164. 140-160

Anybody here have any experience with the 164 auto trans??? The "park pawl", the device that locks the trans in Park ,isnt working. I need to know if it can be adjusted or repaired from underneath or whether the whole trans has to be pulled out and disassembled to correct the problem?
