A couple of days ago I posted that I had "fixed" my exhaust system rattle by repairing the loose cat shield. Well, it's still there for a minute after cold startup. This morning while it was clanging away I reached under the car and grabbed the (still cold) cat and the noise stopped. The pipe was loose and pivoted easily up toward the turbo.
Sure enough, the downpipe is loose at the turbo and can be rotated. I'm guessing this isn't normal. I found the nut on the lower of the three studs to be loose and tightened it up. The other two nuts didn't turn but then, they're pretty corroded. I sprayed them with PBlaster and will check tomorrow.
Do these come loose over time? Is there a gasket between the turbo and downpipe?
Thanks,
