760 ignition failure 700 1987

My beloved 760 is in a coma, ignition failure, intermittent at first now permanent, upon cranking, fuel is getting thru the injectors and into the combustion chambers so i assume that both crank sensor and rpm sensor are working ok, there is 12 volts at the coil positive but no signal on coil negative.
The setup is Motronic 0 261 200 026 and the engine is auto B230ET.
I believe the fuel and ignition ECU's are incorporated in the one box but there is a cast ally box, like a small ECU just behind the battery on the passenger inner wing ( right hand drive ), im stumped !!!
