760 ignition failure 700 1987

don't fear, not all is lost. verify coil output by taking the coil wire off the distributor and holding next to an engine ground while someone cranks the engine...if no spark arcs, which it definitely should, ....however, this may not work without the engine being cranked...some of the volvo systems cut the voltage to the coil when the injectors aren't running, or vice versa, i can't remember exactly. anyways, make sure you've got output, could be a relay, i had a 240 like that. a cheap alternative is to try another coil and go from there....your ballast resistor might burnt out also...so check that too.
