My speedometer and odometer quit entirely 200 1980

They are both completely dead. I have the intermittent odometer/cracked gear problem which I tried unsuccessfully to fix in the past. Now the speedo quit, the first time ever. Is it likely to be the cable breaking or the speedo itself? How much is a new cable and how much time does it take to install?
