Power Steering Question 200 1981

1981 242 Cam Gear Steering Rack: I recently replaced both tie rod ends and the right inner tie rod and both boots and took the car in for an alignment. Since then it has pulled mildly but surely to the left. I took it back and the mechanic looked at the alignment printout and said it looked good. We traded front tires and it still pulled to the left. So he jacked up the front end off the ground and started the car while watching the steering wheel and the steering wheel jerked a little to the left and tends to very very slowly work its way left. Sometimes, once its running, it sits still, but if it moves, it's always left. At start up it gives a quick jerk left that is easily observed. The front-end mechanic says I have a power steering pull and that something in the steering system is messed up.

Could I have screwed something up installing the inner tie rod end? This rack takes a tie rod that locks on by peening. When I peened it, I was careful to support the steering shaft securely from underneath.

I was planning on flushing the system so I guess I'll go ahead with that. Maybe it will wash out something that's causing the problem.

Thanks for any opinions. Do you think I bent something inside the rack? Any ideas or remedies would really be appreciated.
