760 Turbo not working 700 1986

My '86 760T just developed a new problem. At full throttle, I can hear the turbo and the whoosh of air (and the boost gauge rises), but the engine feels like it is missing/coughing. Letting off the throttle allows slow acceleration.
I was thinking that there is some leaking hose and am trying to track it. The metal hose running from the air box to the turbo seems OK. Where else do you recommend that I look? Is there a way to trouble shoot by spraying something on the hoses and joints?
