Performance fallout 900 1994

My 94 940 wagon was performing quite well over the course of the day. Only a few stops for this sales guy today, driving under varied conditions. My foot was actually off the gas pedal when the rpm's burped just a little I was slowing @ about 45mph. and then lost almost all power, and struggled with the pedal to get above an idle. I played with it for a bit, and after numerous restarts from stalls, I got enough out of her to limp a couple of miles to my inlaws house. It feels as though it's fuel related, althoough I'm not sure, and I haven't changed out the fuel filter in about 25,000mi. I'm not sure of the pump condition either, and the Chilton manual isn't very specific on the location of them, and with a quick crawl underneath, I think I found them both together toward the middle on the DS, just about inbetween front and rear seats. I also don't have any info on any special tools necessary to change either of them. Could this possibly be a case of a loose, or jumped timing belt?

I will appreciate any experience that can be offered on this.

Thanks, Hippie
