Engine light on 900 1993

Engine trouble light stays on. Pulled code. Indicated Nox. Fix. Reset. Light back on in 3 miles. Remains on. Pulled code. Low voltage. Mechanic cleaned battery connection. No result. Light dropped of. Back on with 3 miles driving. Only recent problem before Light problem. Lost heater hose. Flooded engine compartment and steamed engine compartment.
Any suggestions to turn off engine trouble light?
Companion problem, predating engine light. When engine is cold, random, intermitent no start. Cranks ok but no fire.
Fix has been to reach distributor cap by firewall, twist/reseat the high voltage cable in the distributor cap. Car will always then start. Never a starting problem when hot. Need a better fix.
