1990 740GLE 16V B234

I have a beautiful 740 GLE wagon that I want to keep, however, I don't care for the high maintenance and lack of reliability of the 16 valve DOHC engine. I had a tenisoner pulley bolt failure resulting in timing belt failure and you know what else.....a rebuilt head. Now I am pretty sure my newly installed head gasket is leaking I have had less than good history with the engine (long story) I searched the FAQ and didn't find any info on engine conversion. I am interested in finding out about installation of a more reliable powerplant. Will a B230 work in my wagon?
Any information or suggestions on the conversion will be very helpful.
