turbo care on '93 945 900

i just bought a '93 945 turbo wagon (through ebay, went to NJ, drove it back to ann arbor) - 102k, $5,000, pretty clean, visably collision free w/ good carfax.

on the whole i'm happy, though i put another $900 into it at the local volvo shop (swedish engineering). it needed a new water pump and we decided to replace most fluids, tranny, brakes, oil. major disastor was averted when the mechanic noticed the wrong timing belt on the car, so that was replaced, too. aside from that it just needed the under engine air guide and belly pan. and a couple bulbs here and there.

it seems the previous owner cut corners w/ the timing belt and aftermarket brake pads, so i'm keeping my fingers crossed against any more surprises, but so far so good.

my main question now is the turbo, which works fine presently. corky at the volvo shop says i should let the engine idle a full minute before shutting it off, every time i use the car. to all you turbo owners out there, is this a crucial thing to extend the life of the turbo?

thanks!
