Hey all,
Ok so some of you know I've been dealing with clanks, thuds, knocks, etc. for the past few months mainly from the front end. Many of you have replied and I have saved out your answers in hopes that I can get the car "solid" once again next week. Here's my current setup: Bilstein HD's, IPD sways, upper and lower chassis braces, and Cherry-Turbo strut-to-strut brace (installed on Sunday), 15" turbo rims. Now the car's handling is insane and can turn on a dime, yet I'm constantly hearing these horrific clanks, thuds, and knocks going over bumps, man-hole covers, and even pavement oil sealer particularly from the front end. Tonight I kinda started from square one and removed the strut-to-strut and upper chassis braces. Took the car for a quick drive and instantly noticed the performance decrease in handling, BUT also noticed less of the thuds and clunks as well. WHY?? NOW, I realize that the car is all the stiffer, and with these upgrades road would increase to some extent due to the rigidity, but I still think something is wrong. I also took the car on a dirt road last week and I thought my steering rack was going to fall off from the front end noise and metallic clunks and horrible shakes in wheel. My Volvo guy said my rack could be starting to go, and might be loose internally...could that be one of the culprits as well? When turning the wheel with the car "off" I can hear and feel clicking sounds and feel a few clunks in the wheel. Also it is becoming more difficult to turn at slower speeds. Do you all think worn out front end bushings could be part of the answer? Also hear a bit of noise in the back too. I don't think the shocks/struts are loose as they were tightened up two weeks ago, and I don't want to loose the braces! Any new thoughts greatly appreciated and sorry so this long-winded deal!!
