Volvo Vs. US Cars?

Wonderful forum you have here. I am looking for a 3rd car to even out the miles my wife and I put on our daily drivers. I have begun to look at mid-80s Volvo's mainly because they are cheap, seem to be quite reliable and also seem to be easy to work on. I am swaying between a US made car like an older Crown Vic or a Volvo sedan or Station wagon. I am interested in your input regarding the ease of repairs, cost of repairs, and the overall expectations of the reliability of these vehicles in light of Lincolns, Crown Vics, or Caddies. Thanks!
